Union for scoring a success

III International Congress «The Profitable pig breeding» organized by the company «Dykun Global Consult» took place at «Ukrainian House» (2, Khreshchatyk str., Kyiv) on June, the 1st, 2011 . This year the congress could be called the greatest event of pig breeding industry, since got together nearly 400 participants. Among them there were 200 representatives of agrarian companies and another part — 200 representatives of commercial, financial establishments and information (news) agencies.

The event took place under support of Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine (APP) that unites 16 leading pig farms of Ukraine. Among them there are Kalyta, Slobozhanskyi, Nyva Pereyaslaeschyny, Galychyna-Zahid, Agroprodservis, Demis-Agro and others. The president of APP and the director of «Galychyna-Zahid» Yaroslav Kebal marked that Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine is the unprofitable, voluntary organization created under the initiative of leading pig producing companies in Ulraine. APP members have already been together carrying out the market monitoring; getting a possibility to save their money due to joint cooperation with processing enterprises and commercial companies. Providing the members with veterinary and animal technical support and organization of regular educational seminars are the nearest plans of APP.

International and Ukrainian experts of pig industry were invited to speak at the congress. Diego Padoan (Austria) cast light on the topic of world’s progress tendencies of the pig industry. Fabio Catunda and Denys Ohrymenko told about the secrets of success and prospects of the pig breeding in Brazil, that has already carried out a real jump at its development for the last ten years and occupied the fourth stage among the world’s biggest producers and exporters of pork, and Russia, that is rising its production confidently despite all the difficulties. The speech of the director of Demis-Agro Ltd Arthur Loza about the nowadays state of the development of the pig breeding market in Ukraine drew special attention. He marked that pig breeding should be oriented to the export to become the key vector of the industry’s increase. And the national select-technological system is needed for forming the efficient market of genetic resources and providing the permanent improvement of animals’ tribal value. Serhiy Nalyvka’s lecture, due to which the participants of congress got the analysis and prognoses of prices on forage for this year, became especially valuable because of the circumstances of permanent oscillation of forage prices.

Production Technologies section was opened by Kees Sheepens, veterinary doctor of the world class. His reports were dedicated to sow signals and fattening pigs on a finishing stage and arose keen interest of all the participants. Kees invoked everybody to follow the rule: «Watch-Think-Act» and advised to recognize the problem at the very beginning and then immediately take measures to eliminate bad results. At the end, Kees Sheepens wished: «Get profit, otherwise you’ll get no pleasure!»

The work of a section was continued by the guests from Denmark: Jan Volmor, Anders Vestergaard-Nielsen, Jens Noesgaard Jørgensen. They lighted up the questions of right insemination, modern approaches to sows` growing and feeding. Vitalii Piotrovych gave advices in savings due to prevention of infectious diseases. Werner Geisler (Germany) proposed new effective angle: energy efficient ventilation systems at pig farms.

Management and Finances Section was interesting first of all for the directors. Volodymyr Yepishyn, general director of Mortadel Agrofirm (Russia) and Vitalii Shakel, chief technologist of Nyva Pereyaslavschyny Ltd (Ukraine) shared their management experience. Olena Voloshyna (IFC) highlighted the question investment attractiveness of pig industry of Ukraine and conditions under which circumstances it can be implemented. Oleksandr Polivodskyi (Sofiya Juridical Company) gave a full-scale description of the current situation with and expectations from state support of the branch.

According to production figures of enterprises, increasing of power and using of new energy technologies there were determined winners of traditional «Industry Leaders Awarrding». They were: APK-Invest, Galychyna-Zahid, Agro-Oven, Nyva Pereyaslavschyny, Agropromuslova companiya, Danosha, Illich-Agro-Uman.

All the participants of the congress have got the practical manuals of Kees Sheepens and new copy of Profitable Pig Production that was general media partner of the Congress.

The meat products from Mortadel (Russia) and «VK & K.«(Ukraine) trade marks tasting was a delicious explosion and worthy addition to a lunch.

Celebratory banquet after the official part of the Congress program allowed all the participants to exchange their thoughts and sincere wishes. The performance of well-known singer Anzhelika Agurbush was a real decoration of the evening.

All the members of the Congress were unanimous that the formula of success in modern enterprises is in continuous improvement of all the aspects of production. So they will definitely use the advice of Diego Padoan: „We are not able to control and optimize what we do not keep booking. That’s why you shouldn’t be blind. You should be constantly detecting and catching opportunities“.
